When Steve Jobs died there was a lot of talk about Walter Isaacson’s biography and Jobs assertion that he finally had “cracked tv“.
“I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,’ he told me. ‘It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.’ No longer would users have to fiddle with complex remotes for DVD players and cable channels. ‘It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.”
Since then we haven’t heard much about it. TV is still the same, for the most part. I hit a button. Images pulse from it. My eyeballs take it all in, make them nightmares. But now it seems we may have a break in the story, straight from Apple Headquarters in the Land of Make Believe. Here it is: the ultimate in controlling devices. 25 years too late. The Powerglove.
