Here’s a spot I made for the iPad featuring the abuses at the Foxconn facility in China. I made it because Apple’s stock is at an all time high and their cash flow is insane, partly because they have instituted an inhumane slave labor policy in China.
Before he died, Steve Jobs said he would never have manufacturing facilities in America because they would be slower than the ultra-efficient factories in China. While Jobs was a brilliant man, he seemed to value efficiency and speed to market more than the virtues of charity and basic human rights for his overseas workforce. If your company manufactures its products in a facility that has to put up nets around the building to prevent workers from jumping off the roof, there is a problem.
I love Apple products. I own an iPhone. I edited the video using a MacBook. I’m a typical Apple-whore. But I can’t sit idly by when the company has accepted slave labor in China over humane working conditions. If Apple refuses to manufacture its products in countries with strict laws protecting workers’ rights, then we must ensure that Chinese workers are granted safe and humane working conditions. Apple can afford to do the right thing.
On the technical side, I used rotoscoping in After Effects and some motion tracking. I’m sure this will get flagged by youtube soon, but enjoy nonetheless.
