South by Southwest started off as an arts and music festival in Austin, Texas. Over the years it has transformed into an uber-commercial self promotional convention dominated by members of “new media”. But in the midst of the fakeness and the out of touch PR people, there are morsels of true art that still exist on the outskirts of the festival. I found one such morsel late at night on the streets outside of a tattoo parlor. Read more
Carrying a burrito at Dream Lake near the top of the Rocky Mountains is tricky. You’re up at around 10,000 feet. The air is thin, the burrito is thick. The glare of the sun is distracting and that squirrely little burrito is just itching to squirm out of your hands and run off into the wilderness to live wild and free like all the other burritos. So I dropped mine. But I picked it right back up and ate it. And then I picked up my camera and took these pictures. Then I took a plane back East and made this video late at night.
Here it is.
A trip to Central Park Zoo. April, 2016.
Like cats? How about more cats?
The cats at Ernest Hemingway’s house in Key West, Florida do what they please. They roam the grounds. Sit in the shade. Climb trees.
The keepers of the property give visitors specific instructions. “You can pet the cats but please refrain from picking them up.” That is true of most of the beautiful things of Key West. Even the beautiful butterflies of the conservatory. And I’m sure it is also true of the women that walk up and down Duval Street.
The cats are around people constantly. So many different people. So many different scents, aromas, essences, auras, personas that they seem to all be a blur. The cats pay hardly any mind to the individual behind the friendly fingers. They just stretch luxuriously and take the caress until one of the caretakers says it’s time for dinner.
And when they eventually pass away they are lovingly placed in the ground on the grounds of the property with a nameplate and a remembrance – eternal companions in spirit to Ernest Hemingway.
Here’s video of a walk I took with my son in Lincoln Woods State Park in Rhode Island.

Took my boy to the Disney Boardwalk in Florida on July 15th and besides the great magician (?) clown (?) that performs there, there are some pretty sweet sights to take in on a summer day.
I took my boy to Legoland in Florida and once we got to miniland, he could not believe his eyes.
We stayed in that part of the park for hours over the course of two days as each intricate detail floored him. As you can see in the video below, his excitement could not be contained and i could barely keep up with him. Read more
